Q

Should I be concerned after polyp removal?

My husband had polyps removed because they were precancerous. What does that mean? Should we be concerned that he will have another colonoscopy in two years per the doctor’s instruction?

That means that he probably had more than 3 polyps, or polyps with features that require closer surveillance, that’s all. There are certain things that put a polyp as a higher risk polyp v. lower risk – it’s recommended to have more frequent colonoscopies if you meet certain features that put you in the high risk group.

Now that the polyps are removed, there is a low risk that these will become a problem. However, he is at high risk for developing new polyps and will need a colonoscopy in a timely manner which is up to your doctor.
