How safe is polyp removal during a Colonoscopy for elderly patients?
I am 84 years old and would like to know if polypectomies are safe for me. During the procedure, what happens if the doctor accidentally pokes a hole in my colon? Does cauterization endanger the walls of my colon?

If there is a polyp, it should be removed. You should speak with your GI doctor about all of your medical problems to determine if it is safe. If there is a hole or perforation, the doctor can use a small endoclip to close the hole or go to surgery.
