Nizar H. Senussi, M.D. is currently a Gastroenterologist at the University of New Mexico. Prior to starting Gastroenterology fellowship training, He completed a dedicated fellowships in both Clinical Nutrition at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, OH and Advanced/Transplant Hepatology at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle, WA. Nizar is actively involved in various medical societies on a national level and is dedicated to colorectal cancer awareness and prevention. He maintains a strong social media presence to advocate for this mission and his long-standing advocacy and commitment to this cause was only further fueled by a loved one’s unexpected diagnosis of colorectal cancer. He has a strong belief in advocating on a large scale while also being on the literal forefront, performing screening colonoscopies on a patient by patient level. Nizar’s personal efforts to publicize colorectal cancer awareness have been formally recognized by the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG) in the form of a SCOPY Award which is a “Service Award for Colorectal Cancer Outreach, Prevention and Year Round Excellence.” He was awarded this distinction for two consecutive years.
