Dr. Shan L. Cheng is native of Philadelphia, but he was raised in Dallas. In 1998, he graduated magna cum laude from Brown University. While at Brown he was elected to be a member of the Phi Beta Kappa society in recognition of his academic achievement. After completing his undergraduate studies, Dr. Cheng continued his education in St. Louis, Missouri at Washington University School of Medicine, receiving a Medical Degree in 2002. Before training to be a GI doctor, he completed internal medicine residencies at Washington University School of medicine and Barnes-Jewish Hospital. He then trained in gastroenterology and hepatology at the University of California, San Francisco (UCFS). He is trained to perform advanced procedures such as Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP). Dr. Cheng is now a board-certified practitioner. Since 2009, he has seen patients at Indianapolis Gastroenterology and Hepatology, where he serves as Secretary and member of the Executive Committee.
Dr. Cheng is associated with the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) and the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA). His medical research has been published on multiple occasions in respected journals. When he isn’t practicing medicine, Dr. Cheng likes to travel, cook and play racquetball. He loves sports, especially football, hockey and European soccer. He has a wife and 2 kids.
