Dr. Michael S. Morelli is native to Cincinnati, Ohio. In 1993, he earned his Bachelor’s in South Bend, Indiana from the University of Notre Dame and, four years later, earned his Medical Degree from Ohio State University. While Dr. Morelli was training to be a GI doctor, he lived in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, completing internship and residency work at hospitals associated with Wake Forest University. During this time, Dr. Morelli served as a Chief Resident. He completed his gastroenterology training in 2004 with a fellowship at the University of Cincinnati, during which time he was trained to perform advanced endoscopy procedures such as ERCP and endoscopic ultrasound. After this training, Dr. Morelli began his practice at Indianapolis Gastroenterology and Hepatology, where he specializes in pancreato-biliary disorders, gastrointestinal cancers and certain types of diarrhea.
Dr. Morelli involves himself in several gastroenterology societies, including the American College of Physician Executives (ACPE) and the American College of Gastroenterology. Dr. Morelli has completed the American College of Physician Executives coursework necessary to receive certification in Medical Management. Dr. Morelli he applies the skills that he developed at the ACPE to his own practice, as former Vice President and current President of Indianapolis Gastroenterology and Hepatology.
Dr. Morelli has been published in books about pancreatitis and, at present, writes for the journal Evidence-Based Gastroenterology. He has served as Medical Director of St. Francis Hospital’s Colorectal Cancer Center and as a Board Member of the Indianapolis Gastroenterology Research Foundation. He also contributed to as Head of several programs dedicated to colon cancer screening at the Indianapolis Gastroenterology Research Foundation. When Dr. Morelli isn’t practicing or getting involved in his medical community, he likes landscaping, U.S. history and sports. He is an avid fan of the University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish sports teams. Dr. Morelli has a wife and 3 kids.
