Professional Bio

Shahla Rah, M.D. has more than a decade of experience as a medical doctor. Dr. Rah owns her own private practice, Digestive Health Care Center, which has offices in Irvine and Newport Beach. She also spends time seeing patients at the local Hoag Hospitals in both cities. She studied gastroenterology with a fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine, which is located in Houston, Texas. She has spent time studying medicine in Pakistan and in England, as well.

Dr. Rah is one of the few female GI doctors in Southern California, with Californians traveling from various cities to be treated at her practice. She pays particular attention to women who need medical attention for their gastroenterological health conditions. Her patients have expressed feeling more comfortable with a female doctor than with male practitioners, particularly female patients experiencing hemorrhoids and other GI conditions during pregnancy.

Among the many procedures rendered at her medical facility, Dr. Rah’s specialty includes capsule endoscopy, Bravo pH monitoring for the treatment of reflux, non-surgical removal of hemorrhoids, medical weight loss, nutrition and detoxification. In addition to colon cancer screening, Dr. Rah treats fatty liver disease, gastroesophageal reflux disease (or GERD), ulcers and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). She supports digestive disease prevention and the incorporation of integrative medicine into her practice.

When Dr. Rah is not busy treating her patients, she volunteers for several overseas organizations, including LIGA Flying Doctors and Rotary International. She has spoken as a member on behalf of the International Foundation of Irritable Bowel Disease and the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America. Dr. Rah is proud to have been named a Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology. In addition, she is a member of the Orange County Medical Association. She is an official speaker for Lotronex, a medication that treats irregular bowel movement and diarrhea. Dr. Rah is living in Newport Beach with her family. She enjoys traveling, tennis and golf.
