I am Doctor Rudy Rai from Columbia, Maryland. I am a gastroenterologist practicing at the Gastro Center of Maryland. I am also part time faculty at Johns Hopkins where I train and have served for nearly 12 years. The question that I was asked today is if a colonoscopy will help me if I am always bloated. In the right clinical context, there are times where you may think about different conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome, small intestine bacterial overgrowth, or inflammatory bowel disease. This could include the possibility of Chron's disease or colitis, especially if there are other alarm symptoms such as bleeding and diarrhea in addition to the bloating. In these circumstances, you should check with your healthcare provider and see if colonoscopy is the right test for you.
