Now that the polyps are removed, there is a low risk that these will become a problem. However, he is at high risk for developing new polyps and will need a colonoscopy in a timely manner which is up to your doctor.

That means that he probably had more than 3 polyps, or polyps with features that require closer surveillance, that's all. There are certain things that put a polyp as a higher risk polyp v. lower risk - it's recommended to have more frequent colonoscopies if you meet certain features that put you in the high risk group.
