Colonoscopy is a very safe procedure, but patient health factors need to be considered. Colonoscopy still remains the "Gold Standard" for colon cancer screening. Please speak with your primary care doctor about the need to talk with a gastroenterologist. We are accepting new patients at Indianapolis Gastroenterology if you are in need of this specialty.

Virtual colonoscopies are equally as safe. However, the guidelines recommend not to screen for colon cancer after the age of 75 unless there are symptoms.
