Is it normal to get a colonoscopy for malaria?

My girlfriend is in Africa and has Malaria. The hospital is telling her she needs to have a Colonoscopy done? Is this normal to ask for this procedure?

It is not common to have a colonscopy as part of the work up for Malaria. The colonoscopy may be recommended due to other symptoms.

If they are treating her for malaria and she is not getting better and she has some GI symptoms, it may be advisable to get a colonoscopy. I am not aware of any colon involvement of malaria.
