Is it necessary to get a colonoscopy without trying other tests first?

This question was asked in Pflugerville, Texas on 03/23/2012.
I have a lower left side abdominal pain, very low pain. I have it on and off for about a month. Because I am 68 years old my doctor wants me to have a colonoscopy. He never ask for a urine test or tried any other medicines first. He just wants me to take this test. I think he is jumping the gun, what about a urine test first? The blood tests that he ran all check out just fine. I have Type 2 Diabetes and Leukemia. I think he should have a least tried some medicine to see if it would help take care of the problem first.

There are no other tests that can adequately examine the colon.
