Is dead bowel syndrome irreversible?

This question was asked in Concord, Tennessee on 06/21/2012.
I'm told that I have 'dead bowel' syndrome. How can I learn more about its causes and treatment? Could this be caused by gluten sensitivity or celiac sprue? Will a colonoscopy help?

True dead bowel means that you no viable bowel left and this would have to be removed by surgery. Usually this is fatal. I doubt you have dead bowel and your doctor must have told you something else.
