Do I need to stop taking antibiotics before a colonoscopy?

This question was asked in Mequon, Wisconsin on 04/02/2012.
I have been plagued with diverticulitis and need to have a colonoscopy, and I have been told that I must be free of antibiotics for 30 days first. I have never heard of this before. What is the reasoning behind this?

It is best to wait at least 4 weeks after a bout of diverticulitis to give the colon a chance to heal before doing a colonoscopy.
