Do I need a colonoscopy if a polyp was found in my appendix?

This question was asked in East Kingsford, Michigan on 10/23/2012.
I am a 40 year old woman. I had emergency surgery to remove my appendix about a month ago and a polyp was found inside of it. Now the doctor wants a colonoscopy done to check for colon cancer. Is it common to have a polyp in your appendix and to also have one in your colon?

It is unusual to have a polyp in the appendix. I would recommend a colonoscopy.
